The Product is YOU
The Product is YOU!
Say it with me, "I am the Product!" YOU are the product in this transaction. In the hiring process, there are many people competing for the same job and each product or person has unique features and benefits that will differentiate them from the others. As the product, you must be well versed on what you bring to the table. What are your features and benefits? You must not only know what you bring, but you MUST be able to articulate clearly how you will benefit the organization.
It is important to understand your product from the customers point of view. What is the hiring manager looking for when making this hiring decision? It is your responsibility to find out and then tailor your presentation, your interview according to your research.
Product Description
It is critical to be able to speak about yourself in a concise way. Most interviewers will inevitably
ask the question, "So tell me a little bit about yourself." This is a key question that can be asked in a variety of ways. No matter how the question is asked, you must be prepared to answer it. Who are you and what do you bring to the table?
As product, what will make this hiring manager make a buying decision? What can you do that will bring value to the organization? What specifically differentiates you from the competition?
Product Name
Your name speaks to your character. Who are you? Do you know what your name means? Whoever you are, it is important that you can describe yourself to the hiring manager. Be creative, but not over the top.
Lastly, here is a question for you to chew on over the next couple of days. "Would you hire yourself if you were the hiring manager? Why or Why not?!" Please include your thoughts in a comment.

People Do Business With People They Like

[…] People do business with people they like. “People are easily persuaded by other people that they like. Robert Cialdini cites the marketing of Tupperware in what might now be called viral marketing.” People were more likely to buy if they liked the person selling it to them. If this statement is true, than it is VERY important for you as a jobseeker to be likable - you are the product. […]

Thanks for this article and info. Really informative! On thinking deeply, I think I’d hire me only if:
(1) I looked well-groomed, as if I took pride in my appearance,
(2) I looked healthily self-confident, warm and at ease,
(3) I expressed myself clearly and intelligently,
(4) I had the required skills and could demonstrate the required competencies.
For me, vibes are really important, which is my reason for points 1-3. They are just as important to me as point 4.
Thanks for making me think. Now I’ll go to work on myself!
